01, 2012 Thankfulness "Thanks be to God for His indescribable
gift!" II Corinthians 9:15. NKJV Have you ever tried to explain
to someone who is blind how beautiful a Grand Canyon sunset
is? How about trying to describe a thrilling ride in a Blue Angel's jet
to someone who refuses to fly? Does it not help to have point of reference--a
point of reference shared by both people? Every true, born-again Christian
has a point of reference when discussing God's indescribable gift.
Even if two Christians have a totally different language, different country,
different customs, different life--they still have one thing in common--salvation
from sin and new life through Jesus Christ! But those who reject Jesus
and His plan for them--those who refuse to repent from sin and accept the
free gift of eternal salvation from the hands of Jesus have no point of
reference regarding this indescribable gift of love. "The
disciples came and said to Him, "Why do You speak to them in parables?"
He answered and said to them, "Because it has been given to you to
know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been
given. For whoever has, to him more will be given, and he will have abundance;
but whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him."
(Matt 13:10-12). Even those who lived before
Messiah came and trusted in God and were accredited eternal salvation were
not told as much as we have been told in Scripture. As Paul declares: "By
revelation He made known to me the mystery (as I have briefly written already,
by which, when you read, you may understand my knowledge in the mystery
of Christ), which in other ages was not made known to the sons of men, as
it has now been revealed by the Spirit to His holy apostles and prophets:
that the Gentiles should be fellow heirs, of the same body, and partakers
of His promise in Christ through the gospel." (Eph
3:3-6). Therefore, we don't have to
fully understand God's indescribable gift for us to be thankful for it.
"When you offer a sacrifice
of thanksgiving to the LORD, offer it of your own free will. (Lev
22:29). Nor do we need to fully comprehend
every aspect of God's indescribable gift in order to receive it. "One
thing I know: that though I was blind, now I see. . . .
He (Jesus) said to him,
"Do you believe in the Son of God?" He answered and said, "Who
is He, Lord, that I may believe in Him?" And Jesus said to him, "You
have both seen Him and it is He who is talking with you." Then
he said, "Lord, I believe!" And he worshiped Him.
(John 9:25b, 35b-38). Of course the little that we
do know about God's indescribable gift of love for us is enough to fill
a thousand centuries of resounding praise and thanksgiving to His Holy Name!

"Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!"
II Corinthians 9:15 NKJV
Yesterday we were reminded that being thankful for God's love for us does
not require a thorough understanding of God's love for us. Because we are
finite in understanding we usually think of love as a mutually beneficial
bond of deep friendship. However, God's indescribable gift of love is far
deeper than that. "The love of God has been poured out in our hearts
by the Holy Spirit who was given to us. For when we were still without strength,
in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man
will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die.
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we
were still sinners, Christ died for us." (Rom 5:5b-8).
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son,
that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that
the world through Him might be saved." (John 3:16-17).
What
benefit does God receive for loving us? None! And here's why: God
is perfectly complete and all sufficient in Himself--He lacks nothing!
"And God said to Moses, 'I AM WHO I AM.'" (Ex 3:14a)
The omnipotence and eternal nature of Who God is are essential in His
Holiest of Names, YHWH and predetermine that God is perfectly (beyond
measure) whole in Himself--nothing can be diminished--nothing can be
added--Ever! God
receives no benefit in loving us since we always have been and always
will be completely dependant on Him for everything! Oh come on--everything?--give
me a break! Yes, everything! "God, who made the world and everything
in it, since He is Lord of heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples
made with hands. Nor is He worshiped with men's hands, as though He
needed anything, since He gives to all life, breath, and all
things." (Acts 17:24-25) "Bless the LORD,
O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives
all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your
life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender
mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that
your youth is renewed like the eagle's . . . .
The LORD has established His throne in heaven, and His kingdom
rules over all." (Ps 103:2-5, 19). Knowing
now that God's indescribable gift of love to us through His Son Jesus Christ
is free to all who accept it, fully satisfies the Father's
sentence of death for sin and forever is our inheritance in Glory--how
could we ever not be thankful? 020212sh

Words of Love-part 1
"God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us."
Romans 5:8. NKJV.
Normal people love to hear words of love spoken or written lovingly to them. No surprise there! But do you realize that there is no human language, nor could there be, that can accurately describe the quality and quantity of the love of God? Perhaps it is problematic that we often use "love" as a convenient word to depict the attitude and actions of God for us. However, the Bible has a lot to say about God's love whether the word "love" is used or not. Will you seek to understand, even fractionally, how great God's love really is in order not to miss out on much of what the Bible is really teaching about His love? Let's look at some profound passages of Scripture the next several days to expose some fascinating words of love that are frequently preconceived, passed over or even perverted.
Let's start with "Love." Read the verse above again. The phrase "His own love" is huge! Already we know there is a contrast between the highest quality of human love and God's love. "His own love" means it is not our type of love because it is uniquely of and from God. The context of the passage has proven this point in verse 7 with "For scarcely for a righteous man will one die; yet perhaps for a good man someone would even dare to die. But God. . . ."
Do you know someone who deserves to have you die for them? We are not asking if you would die for someone but if that someone would be deserving of your love and sacrifice. And not in the sense of restitution or punishment as in a court sentence--but a vicarious act of love? Hence the word "scarcely." God never did anything to deserve a death sentence. On the contrary we are the ones who deserve death! "But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; and the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." (Is 53:5-6). This is just one of the reasons why God's love is so deep and indescribable.
Christian, praise the Lord for His indescribable gift of love! Unbeliever! Accept His love for you today. Call in faith upon the name of Jesus, the Son of God to forgive your sins.

of Love-part 2 "God so loved
the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him
should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son
into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might
be saved." John 3:16-17. NKJV. Yesterday we focused on the quality
of God's love in sending Jesus to the cross to take the punishment for our
sins. Today we look at the quantity of God's love. John 3:16 is the best known verse
of the Bible. Although the words of this ubiquitous verse are in
the minds of people everywhere--the truth of the verse is
not in the hearts of people everywhere. Many people assume that because
God loves them they are going to Heaven. But the love of God is only the
first condition for our eternal life. Others assume since God loves them
and gave Jesus Christ on Calvary (to satisfy the requirement according to
God's justice) that they are going to Heaven. But, although those conditions
have already been provided by God, there is one more condition that must
be met for us to personally "not perish but have everlasting life."
We must believe in Jesus from the heart--not just the mind. "If
you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your
heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.
For with the heart one believes unto righteousness,
and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." (Rom 10:9-10).
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power
of God to salvation for everyone who believes."
(Rom 1:16a). And so the quantity of God's love is for all who
believe. Those who refuse to believe will receive the just wrath of God
eternally in hell. "Unless you repent you will all likewise perish."
(Luke 13:3b). Remember Jesus died for everyone
in the world--everyone who ever lived or has yet to live. "Not with
the blood of goats and calves, but with His own blood He entered the Most
Holy Place once for all." (Heb 9:12a). "For
the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.
For 'whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be
saved.'" (Rom 10:12b-13). But only those who turn from sin
and accept the free, indescribable gift of Salvation through Jesus Christ
by faith from the heart, really believing in Christ, are saved. "But
now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed
by the Law and the Prophets, even the righteousness of God, through faith
in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For
there is no difference; for all have sinned and fall short of the
glory of God, being justified freely by His grace through the redemption
that is in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation by His blood,
through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance
God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, to demonstrate
at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier
of the one who has faith in Jesus." (Rom 3:21-26). God has delivered everything
already for your eternal soul's salvation. All you need to do is take the
gift. Don't let His gift be "undeliverable." Open the door of
your heart today and accept God's free gift of love. 020412sh

Words of Love-part 3
"God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved."
John 3:16-17. NKJV.
Yesterday we focused on the quantity of God's indescribable gift of love and that God's love for the whole world is for "whosoever believes." Today let's go to several more Scriptures that prove that the same God (there is only one God) is both loving and just in character and action and that we must believe what He has said and done to be saved.
God will perfectly reward and punish at the appointed time. God has already judged the sins of the whole world through Christ on the cross. "Jesus said, "It is finished!" And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit." (John 19:30b). "When the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons. And because you are sons, God has sent forth the Spirit of His Son into your hearts, crying out, "Abba, Father!" Therefore you are no longer a slave but a son, and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ." (Gal 4:4-7).
Those who reject this fact and refuse to believe in Jesus will be judged for their sins at the Great White throne judgment. "Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. . . . And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire." (Rev 20:11-12, 15)
Thus the free gift of salvation available to anyone will not be received by everyone. "Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it." (Matt 7:13-14) "John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him." (Matt 21:32). "He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name." (John 1:10-12).
Have you believed these things? Have you accepted God's indescribable gift of love? Will you be judged through the One Work of Christ and gain Heaven--or by your own works and lose Heaven? If you have accepted Christ--Rejoice! If you have not accepted Christ Repent! Believe! "Take the water of life freely." (Rev 22:17c).

Words of Love--part 4--Redemption
"Why should I fear in the days of evil, when the iniquity at my heels surrounds me? Those who trust in their wealth and boast in the multitude of their riches, none of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him--for the redemption of their souls is costly, and it shall cease forever--that he should continue to live eternally, and not see the Pit. . . . But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me."
Psalm 49:5-9, 15. NKJV.
Today's word of love, Redemption (to buy back), is much more than just another component of God's indescribable Gift of Love. Redemption is the theme of the entire Bible! "God has sent redemption to His people; He has commanded His covenant forever: Holy and awesome is His name." (Ps 111:9). The redemption of Israel from Egypt to the Promised Land is a beautiful and amazing foreshadowing of the redemption of all believers from the curse of sin through Adam's Fall to a clean account with God through the Righteousness of Christ to a crown of glory in Heaven. "For this reason He (Christ) is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance." (Heb 9:15).
Do you know the value of your soul! God does! "What profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?" (Matt 16:26). How awesome and exceedingly profound a fact! As part of this Divine Plan of Redemption, God bought back our sinful souls sliding toward the Pit and He (through Christ) became sin for us! "We implore you on Christ's behalf, be reconciled to God. For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." (II Cor 5:20b-21). "Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him; He has put Him to grief. When You make His soul an offering for sin, He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand. He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied. By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many, for He shall bear their iniquities. Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great, and He shall divide the spoil with the strong, because He poured out His soul unto death, and He was numbered with the transgressors, and He bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." (Is 53:10-12).
More about this amazing truth tomorrow. But do notice that the author of Psalm 49 expresses his clear, convincing faith that God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave, for He shall receive me." (v. 15). This author could not see (as we see--looking back) all the fulfilled plan of God through the Cross of Calvary. We have the whole truth and nothing but the truth in the Bible. Have you turned from your sin to the Savior and Redeemer of your soul?

Words of Love--part 5--Redemption
"Christ has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins."
Colossians 1:13-14. NKJV.
Yesterday we focused on the value of the soul and how it really cost Jesus a lot (far more than we can measure) to rescue and redeem our souls from certain destruction. "Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree") (Gal 3:13). "Jesus Christ made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross." (Phil 2:7-8).
Now, redemption (redemption of the soul) can only be accomplished by a holy, merciful, loving, gracious, all powerful, all wise, eternal God (there is only one God Who meets all those requirements) because:
God's perfect Law has been violated. "And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, 'Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat; but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.'" (Gen 2:16-17). "So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate." (Gen 3:6).
But God alone has offered the way of redemption from the penalty brought by the universal condemnation "Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life. For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous." (Rom 5:18-19). But sincere thanks to God that
Redemption is available for all who receive it. "For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men, teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearing of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed and purify for Himself His own special people, zealous for good works." (Tit 2:11-14). "And they sang a new song, saying: 'You are worthy to take the scroll, and to open its seals; for You were slain, and have redeemed us to God by Your blood out of every tribe and tongue and people and nation.'" (Rev 5:9).
Are you one of the Redeemed? If so, praise God! If not, call upon Him for forgiveness and redemption today!

Words of Love--part 6--Reconciliation
"If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. Now all things are of God, who has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ, and has given us the ministry of reconciliation, that is, that God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not imputing their trespasses to them, and has committed to us the word of reconciliation."
II Corinthians 5:17-19. NKJV.
What a word! Do you realize that without God"s Reconciliation to us there is no Forgiveness? No Redemption? No Salvation? No Peace! No Security?! What really did happen when you accepted the free gift of God"s salvation?
Well first, we know perhaps more clearly what did not happen--and (what an incomprehensible blessing) what will never happen! What did not and never can happen is for God to ever condemn us for or even account to us any sin--past, present or future! Thus we read "old things have passed away" and God "has reconciled us to Himself through Jesus Christ."
And second, we know what did happen--and even better, what has happened forever: those who once were "enemies to the death" against God are now friends and sons and daughters forever with God! We are at permanent peace with God because of Jesus Christ, Who is God Himself. "But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity." (Eph 2:13-16).
In the letter to the Romans Paul clearly links the facts of justification and reconciliation together, culminating in glorious praise through the permanent peace made possible by the sacrifice of Christ on Calvary. "But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only that, but we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received the reconciliation." (Rom 5:8-11).
Praise God for His indescribable gift of love manifested permanently through the Reconciliation of every sinner who comes to Christ in humility and faith in Salvation!

The Loving Words of Jesus
"Then they also brought infants to Him that He might touch them; but when the disciples saw it, they rebuked them. But Jesus called them to Him and said, "Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them; for of such is the kingdom of God. Assuredly, I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God as a little child will by no means enter it."
Luke 18:15-17. NKJV.
What a blessing for us to have this passage in the Bible. Many great teachers and various types of leaders seem to have very little time for the "wee ones." And many adults often these days spend as little time as possible with their own children. Are you "punching a timecard" with the children God has placed in your life? Jesus has set an awesome example for us to follow. He refused to neglect the little children. He not only wanted to heal them of their physical maladies--He especially desired to heal them of their spiritual malady--and bring them into the Kingdom of Heaven by His Love and Grace through their simple, childlike faith. "Jesus loves the little children, all the children of the world. Red, brown, yellow black and white, they are precious in His sight. Jesus loves the little children of the world." (H. Woolston).
Christ even used these dear children as a "sermon illustration" right then to teach the jaw-dropping crowd that if they did not come to Christ as these children had, they could never enter the Kingdom of Heaven. I do not believe Jesus meant this as an insult to the adult hearers but as an exhortation to humble themselves and keep the matter simple. Jesus knew that the "culture of the day" viewed children as too lowly and He used this socio shortcoming as "faith fuel" in yet another sermon. "Then He came to Capernaum. And when He was in the house He asked them, "What was it you disputed among yourselves on the road?" But they kept silent, for on the road they had disputed among themselves who would be the greatest. And He sat down, called the twelve, and said to them, "If anyone desires to be first, he shall be last of all and servant of all." Then He took a little child and set him in the midst of them. And when He had taken him in His arms, He said to them, "Whoever receives one of these little children in My name receives Me; and whoever receives Me, receives not Me but Him who sent Me."" (Mark 9:33-37).
Both our faith must be childlike and our fellowship with God must be childlike. "Be imitators of God as dear children." (Eph 5:1). Perhaps John Calvin was thinking of Christ"s teaching here when he said "Faith is not a distant view but a warm embrace of Christ."

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 2
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Matthew 11:28-29. NKJV.
Just reading these precious words brings serenity and rest. Imagine hearing Jesus, the Gentle Shepherd speak these words just 6 feet away from you! Did the people who had the blessing of hearing Christ say these words in their presence understand that the "rest" Jesus speaks about is not physical rest but spiritual rest? Did they know that spiritual rest can only be found completely by
coming to the Great Shepherd with their heavy burden of sin and sorrow,
casting all their trust and hope on His provision and care and
collecting the sweet, enduring, promised rest that only Christ delivers? What a way to be assured of God"s indescribable gift of love--from the mouth of the One who is the Gift and the Giver--all in one!
Praise the Lord for His gift of Salvation and Assurance! Dear Christian, why would we ever want to continue to try to find peace and rest from any other source but the Savior? Everything we need is found in Him! "The LORD is my Shepherd I shall not want . . . My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever." (Ps 23:1, 5b-6).
Are you burdened with the business and cares of this world? Don"t worry anymore. Cast those burdens at the feet of Jesus!
Are you burdened by an unresolved issue of life? Cast that burden at the feet of your loving Shepherd!
Are you burdened by a besetting sin that has corrupted your mind, heart and communion with God? Confess it to the Lord! Forsake it completely! And you will find rest for your soul!
"[Be] casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you." (I Pet 5:7). Oh how much He really cares for us! There is no way for us to understand the deep level of love and care that God has for His children.
You too can have real rest through eternal Salvation available in Jesus Christ alone and humble Submission to His will for your life. The loving words of Jesus are inviting you today to come to Him for rest. Will you answer His call?

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 3
"Do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble."
Matthew 6:31-34. NKJV.
Food and clothes! Are these everyday necessities taking up a lot of our attention perhaps? We currently live in a time when more and more people are wondering if there will be enough food in the fridge for next month--or even next week--or perhaps tomorrow! More and more people, to help make ends meet financially are using hand-me- downs, second-hand clothing or even scraping by with whatever they can find. Certainly nothing wrong with that. "For we brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content." I Tim 6:7-8.
Those who live for money and not for God, who are "secure" financially and do not "worry" about these simple necessities of life are actually missing out on a very special Christian activity called trusting God. "There is one who makes himself rich, yet has nothing; And one who makes himself poor, yet has great riches." (Prov 13:7). "Better is a little with righteousness, than vast revenues without justice." (Prov 16:8). It is seriously a thriving joy to lean on the Lord for all things great and small. He isn"t just interested in the big "important" areas of your life. He is always interested in every area of your life--even the so called "small things." "Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father"s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Matt 10:29-31) "Your Father knows the things you have need of before you ask Him." (Matt 6:8b).
It is also important to understand that today"s key Bible passage is not promoting a reactive vs. proactive lifestyle. That is, we must not say "I"ll just sit around and wait for the Lord to give me everything I need!" Seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness the Bible way will naturally result in a Spirit led life of diligence, faith and satisfaction. We urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more; that you also aspire to lead a quiet life, to mind your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you, that you may walk properly toward those who are outside, and that you may lack nothing. (I Thess 4:10b-12).

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 4
"Do not worry, saying, "What shall we eat?" or "What shall we drink?" or "What shall we wear?" For after all these things the Gentiles seek. Matthew 6:31-34. NKJV.
Yesterday we were reminded that trusting God is a good thing--in fact an essential thing for every Christian. Do you think God loves us so much and wants us to trust Him so much that He graciously sends financial trials into our lives? Or do you think God wants us to confide in great wealth without a care in the world? Some people may have told you that God guarantees you will become financially rich if you just turn to Him and trust Him and obey Him. Have you ever tried to tempt God with this popular prayer of the hypocrite? "Lord, if you really love me then will you give me _______ and ________ and _______!"
But what does the Bible really mean by "seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you?" It is best to read all of Matthew 6 as well as other relevant Bible passages to answer this question. For example: "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (money)." (Matt 6:24). "Command those who are rich in this present age not to be haughty, nor to trust in uncertain riches but in the living God, who gives us richly all things to enjoy." (I Tim 6:17). "My God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus."(Phil 4:19). So clearly God lovingly requires us to trust in Him and not in money or the things that money can get for us. Besides, trusting in Him is far better a gain than a 100,000% capital gain because as we read yesterday "We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can carry nothing out. And having food and clothing, with these we shall be content." (I Tim 6:7-8).
Will you trust in God"s indescribable gift of love for eternity to come instead of your own way and wealth in this present world? "Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!" (Rom 11:33).

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 5
"When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, 'Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.' Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, 'I am willing; be cleansed.' Immediately his leprosy was cleansed."
Matthew 8:1-3. NKJV.
What if this leper said to himself, "Jesus is too busy helping other more important people?" Or, "I should wait for a more convenient time to talk with Jesus. My life isn't really that bad." Or, "Everyone will notice my leprosy and make fun of me--it's just not worth it to be humiliated."
These kinds of thoughts are what keep people today from coming to Jesus and asking Him to heal them of their spiritual leprosy. This leper presents an excellent example for us today of faith in God's indescribable gift of love. First, notice that the leper (
came to Jesus. "All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will by no means cast out." (John 6:37) Jesus never forced those with leprosy to come to Him for healing--they came by faith. So we must also come to Jesus by faith.
The leper worshiped Jesus. "While He spoke these things to them, behold, a ruler came and worshiped Him, saying, 'My daughter has just died, but come and lay Your hand on her and she will live.'" (Matt 9:18) It is important to remember that coming to Jesus and worshiping Jesus are 2 different things. Many came to Jesus with the wrong motives and refused to worship Him. "Then the Pharisees came out and began to dispute with Him, seeking from Him a sign from heaven, testing Him. But He sighed deeply in His spirit, and said, 'Why does this generation seek a sign? Assuredly, I say to you, no sign shall be given to this generation.'" (Mark 8:11-12) When the leper stepped out in faith and worshiped the Lord,
he verbally expressed his faith in Christ--not by "I hope you can make me clean," but with "You can make me clean!" Notice that
the loving words and Divine act of healing by Jesus: "'I am willing; be cleansed.' Immediately his leprosy was cleansed."
This same Jesus is in the same healing business today as then. Have you come to Jesus to worship Him and receive His indescribable Gift of Love?

Words of Love--part 7--Propitiation
"In this the love of God was manifested toward us, that God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. In this is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins."
I John 4:9-10. NKJV.
The indescribable love and grace of God is the cause that sent Christ to the cross for us. The indescribable truth of propitiation is the effect that secures us forever in Christ in Heaven.
Propitiation means God is fully and forever satisfied with the once-for-all holy sacrifice of the Lamb of God. "He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world." (I John 2:2) "That He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people." (Heb 2:17b)
Praise God for this wonderful truth! Can you imagine where we would be spiritually if Jesus were unable to propitiate the Father? What if the stench of our sin and all the sins of all humanity for all time were so putrid to the Father that Gethsemane to Calvary were not enough? "Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart." (Gen 6:5-6). "Your iniquities have separated you from your God; and your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear." (Is 59:2).
The fact of God's just wrath against sin is clearly evident in Scripture. "The wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness." (Rom 1:18). "For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God." (John 3:17-18).
But thanks to God's indescribable Plan of Propitiation "Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool." (Is 1:18b).
And because the Lamb of God made complete propitiation (nothing lacking) to satiate a Holy God--there is nothing we can be or do to add on or improve this Perfect Propitiation. "For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast." (Eph 2:8-9).
Dear Christian, let us all be sincerely thankful for the propitiation accomplished by our loving Lord and Savior!

Words of Love--part 8--Grace
"God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved)."
Eph 2:4-5. NKJV.
The word "grace" is another word like "love" that is impossible to completely understand due to the insufficiency of human languages to describe the blessings and nature of the power of an All Sufficient God. However, God's Word has a lot to say about God's Grace. Ponder the following passages of Scripture:
"The law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ." (John 1:17).
"Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they." (Acts 15:10-11).
"For if by the one man's offense many died, much more the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abounded to many. . . .For if by the one man's offense death reigned through the one (Adam), much more those who receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness will reign in life through the One, Jesus Christ.)" (Rom 5:15b, 17b).
"Where sin abounded, grace abounded much more, so that as sin reigned in death, even so grace might reign through righteousness to eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." (Rom 5:20b-21) "My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness." (II Cor 12:9b).
"(God) predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will, to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved." (Eph 1:5-6) "To me, who am less than the least of all the saints, this grace was given, that I should preach among the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ." (Eph 3:8).
God's Grace is completely undeserved. But God's Grace perfectly displays both His justice and His love simultaneously. Jesus, in His perfect innocence, never deserved to have to suffer and pay for our sins. Nor could we ever deserve to receive the eternal blessings bestowed on us because of all Christ has done for us.
Are we praising God as much as we should for the indescribable gift of His Grace? Are we living a life that manifests profound gratefulness to Him for all He has done and is doing for us by the power of His eternal Grace? "The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you. Amen." (Rom 16:20b).

Words of Love--part 9--Grace
"Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began, but has now been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Jesus Christ, who has abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel."
II Timothy 1:8-10. NKJV.
Yesterday we focused on several Bible passages that taught some amazing aspects of God's Grace. Of course, the Bible clearly teaches that humankind has never been or can never be deserving of God's Grace. In fact, in order for us to have our sins all forgiven forever, it was absolutely necessary (though undeserved) for God to provide the way of Salvation through Jesus Christ. "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me." (John 14:6).
The really amazing (and still indescribable) part about Grace is:

Words of Love--part 10-- Discipline
"My son, do not despise the chastening of the Lord, nor detest His correction; for whom the Lord loves He corrects, just as a father the son in whom he delights."
Proverbs 3:11-12. NKJV.
What?! How can that be? Discipline and love in the same sentence?! There is a resurgent and popular view permeating American culture today that if Mom and Dad really love their child they will not punish him or her but rather "have a discussion" to educate their child to comprehend choice/consequence and to request (not demand) that their child "self-correct." However, Scripture teaches that the opposite is true. And when "progressive" psychology and the Bible conflict-- then a Christian must choose the Bible because "All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work." (II Tim 3:16-17).
True love is demonstrated in various ways including training children through correction, good example and yes, even punishment! "He who spares his rod hates his son, but he who loves him disciplines him promptly." (Prov 13:24). "Chasten your son while there is hope, and do not set your heart on his destruction." (Prov 19:18).
This is not to say that all parental discipline comes from love. But all of God's discipline for His children comes from love. And it comes from the best kind of love--the indescribable love of God. If God just left us alone to our own devices and detached Himself from our lives, what kind of Father would He be? Incidentally, that is how a backslidden Christian prefers God to act (or rather not act). But that is for another day. Rest assured Christian, if you are experiencing the discipline of your Heavenly Father--be glad--be very glad! Because He loves you! "Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects; Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty." (Job 5:17). "Now no chastening seems to be joyful for the present, but painful; nevertheless, afterward it yields the peaceable fruit of righteousness to those who have been trained by it." (Heb 12:11).
Conversely if you are not experiencing and have never experienced the discipline of God, as in a father to a child, then you probably need to become God's child through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ first. "If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten?" (Heb 12:7). "As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent." (Rev 3:19).
The Loving Words of Jesus--part 6
"When He had come down from the mountain, great multitudes followed Him. And behold, a leper came and worshiped Him, saying, 'Lord, if You are willing, You can make me clean.' Then Jesus put out His hand and touched him, saying, 'I am willing; be cleansed.' Immediately his leprosy was cleansed."
Matthew 8:1-3 NKJV
Do you realize that your eternal destiny boils down to those 3 loving words of Jesus--"I am willing?" Can you imagine what our souls would face if Jesus
had not been willing to come down from Heaven? "(Christ) made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men." (Phil 2:7). "(Jesus said) 'I am the living bread which came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread, he will live forever; and the bread that I shall give is My flesh, which I shall give for the life of the world.'" (John 6:51). Or
not be willing to be condemned on our account? "Surely He has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; Yet we esteemed Him stricken, Smitten by God, and afflicted. But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; The chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all." (Is 53:4-6) "Christ went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, 'O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.'" (Matt 26:39). Or
not be willing to complete the just and gracious transaction of our eternal salvation? "Jesus said to them, 'My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.'" (John 4:34). "And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do." (John 17:3-4).
Today, Christian, let us remember and be thankful for our Lord's willingness to finish the Great Task for us. We could not save ourselves--only the Perfect (willing) Lamb of God could finish the requirements of God's just Law and be our Salvation to the end! Praise God that "The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance." (II Pet 3:9).

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 7
"His lord said to him, 'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'"
Matthew 25:23 NKJV.
As faithful servants of God in active gratitude for His indescribable gift of Love, what greater joy could there be than to stand before Him at the appointed time in the Life to come and hear Him say to us. "'Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.'"
However, even though every Christian is eternally saved and will forever experience the joys of Heaven and the perpetual praise of Jehovah, not every Christian will hear these loving words of Jesus spoken directly to them. "Then he who had received the one talent came and said, 'Lord, I knew you to be a hard man, reaping where you have not sown, and gathering where you have not scattered seed. And I was afraid, and went and hid your talent in the ground. Look, there you have what is yours.' "But his lord answered and said to him, 'You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest. Therefore take the talent from him, and give it to him who has ten talents." (Matt 25:24-28).
Therefore we make it our aim, whether present or absent, to be well pleasing to Him. For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, that each one may receive the things done in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad." (II Cor 5:9-10). "For we are God's fellow workers; you are God's field, you are God's building. According to the grace of God which was given to me, as a wise master builder I have laid the foundation, and another builds on it. But let each one take heed how he builds on it. For no other foundation can anyone lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one's work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one's work, of what sort it is. If anyone's work which he has built on it endures, he will receive a reward. If anyone's work is burned, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire." (I Cor 3:9-15). Will you enter into the Joy of the Lord after hearing Jesus say "Well done?"
Words of Love--part 11--Mercy
"Remember, O Lord,
Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses,
for they are from
of old. Do
not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions;
according
to Your mercy remember me, for Your goodness' sake, O Lord."
Psalm 25:6-7 NKJV.
This fascinating Psalm of David is an excellent example of how a Christian should pray to God. Read the entire Psalm 25 now. Can you imagine how little confidence David would have had (or us today) if the Lord were not a merciful Lord? But the Lord has a proven track record of bestowing His indescribable gift of Love through His merciful character to all who call upon Him for forgiveness. "Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts; Let him return to the LORD, and He will have mercy on him; and to our God, for He will abundantly pardon." (Is 55:7). "Show us Your mercy, Lord, and grant us Your salvation. . . . Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him, that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth have met together; Righteousness and peace have kissed. Truth shall spring out of the earth, and righteousness shall look down from heaven." (Ps 85:7, 9-11).
Without God's mercy we have nothing! No peace--No joy--No blessings! Only despair, destitution and destruction! "For great is Your mercy toward me, and You have delivered my soul from the depths of Sheol" (Ps 86:13) "'With a little wrath I hid My face from you for a moment; But with everlasting kindness I will have mercy on you,' says the LORD, your Redeemer." (Is 54:8). "Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits: Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases, Who redeems your life from destruction, Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies, Who satisfies your mouth with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle's." (Ps 103:2-5). "O my God, incline Your ear and hear; open Your eyes and see our desolations, and the city which is called by Your name; for we do not present our supplications before You because of our righteous deeds, but because of Your great mercies." (Dan 9:18).
Dear Christian, although we are saved from the penalty of sin by the mercy and grace of God, should we not continue to rely on the daily mercies of God to sustain us during trials and temptations, to secure us in His will and protection and summon us to honor Him and love Him back for all He has done and is doing for us every hour? "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort." (II Cor 1:3)
[1] Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.
[2]
O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine
enemies triumph over me.
[3] Yea, let none that wait on
thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without
cause.
[4] Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy
paths.
[5] Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art
the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.
[6]
Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for
they have been ever of old.
[7] Remember not the sins of my
youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me
for thy goodness' sake, O LORD.
[8] Good and upright is the
LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way.
[9] The
meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his
way.
[10] All the paths of the LORD are mercy and truth
unto such as keep his covenant and his testimonies.
[11]
For thy name's sake, O LORD, pardon mine iniquity; for it is
great.
[12] What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall
he teach in the way that he shall choose.
[13] His soul
shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth.
[14]
The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew
them his covenant.
[15] Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD;
for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.
[16] Turn thee
unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and
afflicted.
[17] The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O
bring thou me out of my distresses.
[18] Look upon mine
affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.
[19]
Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel
hatred.
[20] O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be
ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.
[21] Let integrity and
uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.
[22] Redeem
Israel, O God, out of all his troubles.
Words of Love--part 12--Mercy
"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you."
I Pet 1:3-4 NKJV.
Mercy reminds us that God has withheld His wrath from us. The mercy that relates to our Salvation means that God (indescribably through His gift of love) has permanently withheld His wrath from us and the just eternal punishment that would have resulted from that wrath. Peter sure knew firsthand about the mercy of the Lord. Thus Peter's qualifications for teaching about God's mercy are indisputable. Do you believe Peter was perhaps not always so confident that Jesus would forgive him and show mercy to him? "From that time Jesus began to show to His disciples that He must go to Jerusalem, and suffer many things from the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day. Then Peter took Him aside and began to rebuke Him, saying, 'Far be it from You, Lord; this shall not happen to You!' But He turned and said to Peter, 'Get behind Me, Satan! You are an offense to Me, for you are not mindful of the things of God, but the things of men.'" (Matt 16:21-23). "A little later those who stood by came up and said to Peter, 'Surely you also are one of them, for your speech betrays you.' Then he began to curse and swear, saying, 'I do not know the Man!' Immediately a rooster crowed." (Matt 26:73-74). Imagine the despair of Peter knowing he denied the Lord, not just by his mouth but by his heart.
However, Peter's despair turns to jubilation after the resurrection of Jesus from the dead. And now Peter understands and values the everlasting joy of being a part of God's family: "You are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy." (I Pet 2:9-11).
Have you sought the mercy of God for your life? Pray right now that God will be merciful to you because "He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy." (Prov 28:13). "Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need." (Heb 4:16).

Words of Love--part 13--Justification
"No one will be declared righteous in God's sight by the works of the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of our sin. But now apart from the law the righteousness of God has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness is given through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus."
Romans 3:20-24. NKJV.
Dear reader, don't let the word "Justification" repel your interest or invite your presumption. If you were guilty of a high crime against the state, were witnessed, arrested, incarcerated, arraigned and sentenced to death (no parole) would you not take careful interest in any legal provision to declare your innocence or at least reduce the sentence? In God's perfectly just and holy view (His is the view that matters) we all were:
guilty of violating His legal standard of holiness, All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God." (v.23)
were witnessed by God breaking His Laws, "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good." (Prov 15:3) .
have been arrested and incarcerated, "The Scripture has confined all under sin." (Gal 3:22a)
arraigned, "For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all." (Jam 2:10). "Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight." (Rom 3:19-20a). and
sentenced to both physical and spiritual death by God. "Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned. . . . so also by one Man's obedience many will be made righteous." (Rom 5:12, 19b).
God has chosen (incomprehensibly) through His Son, Jesus Christ to justify (declare permanently righteous) all who accept by faith completely the legally substitutional death of Jesus on their behalf. What a humbling and truly glorious thought that Justification is the Divinely legal and irrevocable proof that Reconciliation and Propitiation have taken place on every Christian's account already and forevermore in the court of Heaven. "The gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable." (Rom 11:29) Praise God!!

Words of Love--part 14--Justification
"Therefore, as through one man's offense judgment came to all men, resulting in condemnation, even so through one Man's righteous act the free gift came to all men, resulting in justification of life."
Romans 5:18. NKJV.
Today we continue with the amazing truth that Justification is available (through the Divinely legal sentence of God Himself) for any person, regardless of your criminal record, or your ethnic origin, or income and assets, or religious background and traditions, or any other condition. "For the Scripture says, 'Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.' For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. For 'whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.'" (Rom 10:11-13).
This is not to say that one can come to Christ with the intention of continuing in the former life of sin. "Those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." (Rom 8:5-6). Repentance and Faith that leads to real Salvation leaves the former life of sin and all its baggage behind, with the intent to never return--then runs toward the loving, outstretched arms of Jesus Christ, the only Way, Truth and Life. (John 14:6).
The most important truth today for us to remember regarding justification is that
although we are the ones who must decide to receive by faith God's gracious justification--we are not the ones who declare this justification.
God is the One who declares us "Justified!" "Moreover whom He (God) predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified. What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Rom 8:30-31).
There will, sadly, be many at the Judgment, standing tremblingly before God the Righteous Judge of all mankind, who will be declared unrighteous, cursed and forever condemned to Hell--even though they appeared to be righteous and justified by living good, moral lives of impeccable service to God. "Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!'" (Matt 7:21-23).
Dear reader, at the end of time will you hear this loving word of Jesus spoken to and for you? " _______ is justified forever! _______ is one of mine! _______ may enter the joy of the LORD!!?

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 15--Loyalty
"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So we may boldly say: 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me'?"
Hebrews 13:5-7. NKJV.
Taken with Psalm 23:1 and 5c-6, this passage in Hebrews provides great encouragement and rest for any Christian. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. . . . My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord Forever." "For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.'" Christ wants all of us to rest completely in His faithful care. Not just for the simple, material things of this life--but for the really valuable things of the life to come. "Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you." (Matt 6:33).
God has promised to always be with us--and He cannot lie. "In hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began." (Titus 1:2). And so, already we see that there is a sharp contrast between Jesus Christ's promise/history of loyalty and a human friend's promise/history of loyalty. Even the best friend with the best intentions and best track record may become disloyal at some point. But our loving Lord will never be disloyal to His own. "I thank my God always concerning you for the grace of God which was given to you by Christ Jesus, that you were enriched in everything by Him in all utterance and all knowledge, even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you, so that you come short in no gift, eagerly waiting for the revelation of our Lord Jesus Christ, who will also confirm you to the end, that you may be blameless in the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is faithful, by whom you were called into the fellowship of His Son, Jesus Christ our Lord." (I Cor 1:4-8).
How many of us believers have used and continue to use this gentle phrase in our prayers to God? "Dear Lord, please be with _______". That is certainly a prayer that God loves to answer--it is permanently part of His holy nature. "Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you from God the Father and from the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of the Father, in truth and love." (II John 3).
Throughout the Scriptures the sheep of the Shepherd pray to the God of loyalty--not as a wish--but as a confident expectation of His care and presence. "Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it." (I Thess 5:23-24).
Christian, are you trusting and rejoicing in the loyalty of God for you?

Words of Love--part 15--Help
"Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He Himself has said, 'I will never leave you nor forsake you.' So we may boldly say: 'The Lord is my helper; I will not fear. What can man do to me'?"
Hebrews 13:5-7. NKJV.
Every Christian will probably come face to face with a seemingly irreconcilable or impassable problem, person or pressure in life. Maybe you are facing something like that right now? And sometimes a casual reading or hearing about the words of help, peace and joy from the Bible seem to not penetrate sufficiently through to the center of the crisis in your life. But, Praise the Lord, reading and concentrating on and claiming the truth of God's help for all His children will bring peace and joy to us. And it usually comes, not by a predictable resolution to the crisis, but by the faith and assurance that God knows, cares and Helps! What a beautifully reassuring fact to know that God isn't just with us--He works for us! That is, God works the crisis for us--He works out the problem ahead of time. He wants the very best for us (as He defines best) so that we are content with what we have been given, and so we will not fear and wonder "What can man do to me?"
Ponder these incredible passages from the Psalms:
"I am poor and needy; Yet the LORD thinks upon me. You are my help and my deliverer; Do not delay, O my God." (Ps 40:17).
"Because You have been my help, Therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice. My soul follows close behind You; Your right hand upholds me." (Ps 63:7-9).
"Unless the Lord had been my help, My soul would soon have settled in silence." (Ps 94:17).
And, as if those verses were not enough, how about
this fascinating and assuring Psalm? "I
will lift up my eyes to the hills--from whence comes my
help? My
help comes from the Lord,
Who made heaven and earth. He
will not allow your foot to be moved; He who keeps you will not
slumber. Behold,
He who keeps Israel
shall neither slumber nor sleep. The
Lord is your
keeper; The Lord
is your shade at your right hand. The
sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night. The
Lord shall
preserve you from all evil; He shall preserve your soul. The Lord
shall preserve your going out and your coming in from this time
forth, and even forevermore." (Ps
121).
Dear Christian, have you conceded to despair that nothing and no one cares about your crisis? Please read the above Scriptures again and again. Now pray in faith for Almighty God's help--in God's way--in God's timing. Because God is your Hope and your Help!

Words of Love--part 16--Joy
"Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that you may abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit."
Romans 15:13. NKJV.
For the Christian, real joy comes from the Holy Spirit. The flesh, the world, money, fantasy can never bring to you the level of joy that God can bring. Perhaps ironically, real joy from God comes from the guidance of the Holy Spirit during the extremely difficult trials and "pile-ups" of life--and especially "rear view mirror mode" that teaches us what we just avoided! But many of the things God puts in our path we will not completely understand until Heaven.
Notice how Peter (by opening and ending his letter) explains the phenomenal partnership of trials and joy: " In this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while, if need be, you have been grieved by various trials, that the genuineness of your faith, being much more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire, may be found to praise, honor, and glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ, whom having not seen you love. Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory" (I Pet 1:6-8). "Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ's sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy." (I Pet 4:12-13).
It is also important to know that real joy is an indescribable gift from God that doesn't arrive when we just sit around and wait for it. Real joy comes when we share the Good News of Salvation with others, see them receive God's gift of Love and Salvation, and ultimately see them standing with us before the Lord after this life is over! "Therefore we wanted to come to you--even I, Paul, time and again--but Satan hindered us. For what is our hope, or joy, or crown of rejoicing? Is it not even you in the presence of our Lord Jesus Christ at His coming? For you are our glory and joy." (I Thess 2:18-20).
And so we see that joy is received when it is first given. Have you told others about what Jesus has done/is doing for you so that they can share in His indescribable gift of love and joy? If you do this--you will experience the inexpressible joy of the Lord as never before!
"Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to present you faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to God our Savior, Who alone is wise, be glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and forever. Amen." (Jud 23-25).

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 16--Unity
"I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who will believe in Me through their word; that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. And the glory which You gave Me I have given them, that they may be one just as We are one: I in them, and You in Me; that they may be made perfect in one."
John 17:20-23a. NKJV.
Dear Christian Believer, have you really considered this profound Biblical fact? Jesus and you are one!!
Now some (usually those yet to be saved) will interpret the above Bible passage to mean that they are just like God, or worse--that they are God. But that is not what the Bible is teaching. To clarify, read these portions of Scripture: "The Lord our God, the Lord is one! You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength." (Deut 6:4b-5). "So the scribe said to Jesus, 'Well said, Teacher. You have spoken the truth, for there is one God, and there is no other but He.'" (Mk 12:32).
"(Jesus said) I and My Father are one." (John 10:30), a passage that clearly reveals Jesus is God--not just a great man (as many today claim).
But to better understand and appreciate what our Lord means by "that they also may be one in Us" (v. 21) it is also very useful to read what Jesus said in his prayer before today's key passage above: "I have manifested Your name to the men whom You have given Me out of the world. They were Yours, You gave them to Me, and they have kept Your word. Now they have known that all things which You have given Me are from You. For I have given to them the words which You have given Me; and they have received them, and have known surely that I came forth from You; and they have believed that You sent Me. "I pray for them. I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. And all Mine are Yours, and Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are. (John 17:6-11).
The unity that comes from God's indescribable gift of love is a filial unity. We, as believers, are all a part of the family of God with God is our Dear Father! And we always be! " For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. For as many of you as were baptized into Christ have put on Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is neither male nor female; for you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you are Christ's, then you are Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise." (Gal 3:26-29).

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 17--Peace.
"Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
John 14:27. NKJV.
Peace is part of God's eternal plan for you, dear Christian! While we live and work in this world--waiting patiently for Jesus to return and take us to our home above--peace often seems to be a distant hope instead of a present reality. But did you know you can experience real peace right now? Yes! Because of what Jesus has said and has done for you, His peace is available right now!
Read these verses of Scripture carefully and seize the peace that our loving Lord, by His indescribable gift of love, has bestowed on you:
"These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world." (John 16:33).
"Then Peter opened his mouth and said: 'In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him. The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ--He is Lord of all.'" (Acts 10:34-36).
"But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace." (Eph 2:13-15).
"Therefore, having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ." (Rom 5:1)
"But what about all the things happening in my life right now? Surely there is no way to really get peace with all that going on?! Peace is great for those who don't deal with what I have to deal with!" "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. . . The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you." (Phil 4:6, 7, 9). "For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace." (Rom 8:6).
"Finally, brethren, farewell. Become complete. Be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you." (II Cor 13:11).

The Loving Words of Jesus--part 18--Comfort
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Matthew 5:4. NKJV.
Christian brother or sister, God does not want you to be comfortable--He wants you to be comforted! Huge difference! What is the difference? One is heavenly--the other earthly. One is for our bodies and minds--the other for our souls. One yields temporary happiness--the other yields lasting peace and joy. Imagine sitting with the crowd, close to Jesus at the Sermon on the Mount and hearing Him say to you. "You shall be comforted." Would you not immediately be comforted knowing you will be comforted? "Sing, O heavens! Be joyful, O earth! and break out in singing, O mountains! For the Lord has comforted His people, and will have mercy on His afflicted." (Is 49:13).
I just love this next passage that compares the love of a mother for her child to God's love for His children: "Thus says the Lord: 'Behold, I will extend peace to her like a river, and the glory of the Gentiles like a flowing stream. Then you shall feed; on her sides shall you be carried, and be dandled on her knees. As one whom his mother comforts, so I will comfort you.'" (Is 6:12-13b).
The complete comfort that comes only from our loving Father is also reinforced in the New Testament: "Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ." (II Cor 1:3-5) Did you catch all the "comfort" in that passage? Wow!
No matter how many or how harsh our issues or crises in life are--we can always be ready to turn to the comfort of our loving Lord: "In the multitude of my anxieties within me, Your comforts delight my soul." (Ps 94:19). "You, who have shown me great and severe troubles, shall revive me again, and bring me up again from the depths of the earth. You shall increase my greatness, and comfort me on every side." (Ps 71:20-21).
Pondering God's indescribable gift of love through the finished Work of Christ on Calvary and the Empty Tomb is certainly one terrific way to be spiritually comforted. "Thus God, determining to show more abundantly to the heirs of promise the immutability of His counsel, confirmed it by an oath, that by two immutable things, in which it is impossible for God to lie, we might have strong consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold of the hope set before us. This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast." (Heb 6:17-19a).
"Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work." (II Thess 2:16-17).
